Jason Cortez is a Salvadoran-American graduate of George Mason University’s Film and Video Studies program. Since graduating in 2015 he has directed, written, and produced a variety of shorts. His latest film “Northern Star” has garnered praise and awards this season. As a filmmaker he strives to tell grounded stories of people that are relatable and leave the audience with a better sense of human understanding. As the son of Salvadoran immigrants, Jason helps to represent an underrepresented community, which is being a Latino filmmaker. Along with his filmmaking career, he has vast experience in network television, photography, and podcasting. He co-hosts a podcast called “Let’s talk about the 2000’s” which dives into the music and pop culture of the 2000’s. He also co-founded a film and photography company with D.C. Photographer Michael Rose called, “Negativs” which focuses on fashion photography, narrative and experimental filmmaking. He’s currently in the process of writing his first feature and television series.
